A wonton is a type of Chinese dumpling commonly found across regional styles of Chinese cuisine. They are filled with proteins (chicken, pork, or fish), vegetables and herbs.

You can find wontons at most grocery stores This recipe uses store bought Chicken & Cilantro Wontons, but you can use any flavour combination.

6-8 cups of chicken broth

16 - 20 Chicken & Cilantro Wontons

2 green onions, chopped

1 tbsp of ginger, grated

1 fresh garlic, minced

1 - 2 tbsp of low sodium soy sauce

**Veggies of your choice! You can include chopped carrots, bok choy, celery, and/or mushrooms

Salt & Pepper to taste

Method:

  1. In a large saucepan, boil chicken stock on medium/low heat.

  2. Add ginger, garlic, 1/2 of the green onions, soy sauce, salt & pepper. Let simmer for 15 minutes to bind flavours. **At this point, you may also add ramen/noodles to the broth for a heartier meal.

  3. Bring stock to a boil, then add wontons and vegetables. Boil for 3 - 5 minutes. **The wontons only take 1 - 2 minutes to heat as they are pre-cooked. If you are using raw or fresh wontons, you will have to adjust cooking time according to package.

  4. Once the wontons are done, it is ready to serve!

  5. Serve in a bowl and garnish with remaining scallions and enjoy!
