For many, Labour Day marks the end of summer vacation, the start of a new school year, and a reminder that Autumn is just around the corner. But for those in 19th century Canada, this was a time for revolution, fairness, and justice! Many labour groups, such as the Toronto Typographical Union, were requesting shorter workdays from their employers. Labourers, in some cases, were expected to work 12hr days! Union leaders were subsequently arrested for holding strikes and parades demanding their rights. Thankfully, they pressed on and changes were made!
To them, we say Thank You!
