Felt Hearts

Bringing back nostalgic activities like knitting or sewing can be both fun and therapeutic for elderly loved ones.

In this week's activity, we create 3-Dimensional felt hearts using only simple materials and sewing tools.

Here's what you need

  • 2 - 10 x 10" felt squares in red, pink, white, or colour of choice

  • Embroidery needle and Cotton thread

  • Stuffing or cotton batting

  • Scissors and pencil or marker

*Optional - ribbon, embroidery thread for hanging.

Directions

  1. Draw a heart shape on one sheet of felt. Cut out using scissors.

  2. Using your cut-out, trace its shape on the second piece of felt so that both sides will match. Cut your second heart shape.

  3. Place one heart shape on top of the other, sew the hearts together. Use a blanket stitch to sew around the outside edge of each heart, leaving one-inch of opening.

  4. When about a one-inch opening remains, fill the heart with stuffing, then finish stitching to close the opening.

  5. If you wish to hang your heart, stitch both ends of your ribbon to the top of your heart design.
