Buttermilk Biscuits

For many of us, the smell of baking bread brings about fond memories of our parent's or grandparent's kitchen. Mealtimes spent together as a family around the table or gathering on special occasions, the act of cooking and baking brings people together.

Buttermilk Biscuits



Ingredients

  • 1 stick of butter (frozen)

  • 2 1/2 cups of self-rising flour***

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup of buttermilk

Directions

  1. Grate the frozen butter and add to flour.

  2. Mix loosely into a crumble. Chill for 10 minutes.

  3. Create a well in the center of the mixture and add buttermilk. Mix.

  4. Roll out on a flat surface. Folding in on self 4 to 5 times.

  5. Roll out 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and cut out biscuits.

  6. Bake at 475° F. for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

***If no self-rising add 3 3/4 teaspoons of baking powder.


Serve warm with butter, add to a savoury soup or chowder dish, or enjoy on its own!
